I have lost the registration number of my moped: what should I do?
Have you lost your moped's licence plate or has it been stolen? That's a shame, because without a licence plate you are not allowed to use the public roads with your moped. To be able to use your moped again as soon as possible, you can apply for a new licence plate. Read here about what you should do if you have lost your moped's registration plate.
What should I do if I have lost my moped's registration and the registration certificate of my moped?
If you have lost both the registration plate and the registration certificate, you should first apply for a new registration certificate. Without a registration certificate, you cannot apply for a new licence plate. You can apply for a new registration certificate here. Can't wait for a new registration certificate? Then you should report this to the police in person. If you have a signed report card, you can purchase a temporary (white) number plate. As soon as you have a new registration certificate, you can purchase the permanent plate.
How does the application for new licence plates work?
If you have lost the registration number of your moped, you can apply for new licence plates from a licence plate manufacturer recognised by the RDW. To apply, follow the step-by-step plan below:
- Choose from this overview a licence plate manufacturer that is recognised by the RDW. You can recognise an authorised licence plate manufacturer by the RDW accreditation shield and a sticker with the text 'issued licence plates'.
- Bring the following documents with you:
- The original Vehicle Registration Certificate (Part IA) or the registration card. If you also lost the registration certificate, you must first apply for a new one
- A valid form of identification - Pay the cost of the new licence plate. The licence plate manufacturer is allowed to set the price, so the price may vary from one manufacturer to another
- Then you will receive the new licence plates with a duplicate code. The duplicate code is a number on the licence plate. This number indicates how often number plates have been issued for the moped.
Do I have to report the loss of my moped registration number?
If you suspect that your licence plate has been stolen, we recommend that you always report it to the police. You do not have to go to a police station to do this, you can make the report via the internet. Do not forget to save a copy of the report by saving it on your computer or print it out.
