Frequently asked questions about third-party coverage for moped insurance

What does third-party cover for moped insurance mean?

This is the cheapest of the four forms of insurance for mopeds. Everyone who has a vehicle in their name is also obliged to insure it against third-party liability (WA). Often, this insurance offers too limited a cover. Damage to your moped will not be covered by this insurance.

Why do you take out third-party motor insurance?

Firstly, of course, because this insurance is compulsory, but the insurance also offers good protection for yourself. If you cause a personal injury, the damage to the other party can run into hundreds of thousands of euros. Just imagine that you collide with a 25-year old who becomes permanently disabled. Who will ensure that the injured party receives an income until retirement? Without motor liability insurance you could go bankrupt as a result of a single driver error. The financial burden is unbearable.

Who insures the moped?

The obligation lies with the person who has the moped in his/her name. If you buy the moped and register it in your name and a friend rides it, you are still the one who has to take care of the insurance. It is allowed to put a note on the insurance that someone else is the regular driver. As long as the licence plate is in your name, the moped must be insured.

When can you claim on the moped insurance?

The insurance offers coverage against damage for which you are legally responsible. The third-party insurance does not cover damage to you or your moped. You cannot be held liable for damage to yourself or your possessions. In the event of a claim, an excess may be payable. This is the part of the damage that is at your own expense. Claiming damage on the moped insurance can be at the expense of your damage free years. This can result in an increase of the premium in the next insurance year.

When to choose WA Moped insurance?

This type of insurance is often chosen for older mopeds with a low current value. In the event of an accident, you will not be reimbursed for your own loss. In case of theft or a collision, you have to pay for the replacement or repair of your vehicle yourself. Unable or unwilling to do so? Then choose one of the three extended types of cover.
