Are there any mopeds that can be driven without a license?
You do not necessarily need a driving licence to buy a moped, but you do need one to drive one. You need a driving licence to drive any motor vehicle in the Netherlands. Consequences of driving without a licence
If you drive your moped without a licence, there are consequences. You run the risk of a €250,- fine. In addition, you are also uninsured, even if you have taken out a normal moped insurance. An insurer will often not cover you if you cause damage while driving a moped without a licence. Therefore, you have to pay for all damage costs yourself. Damage to your face can be significant, but if personal injury occurs, the financial consequences can be huge. It is not for nothing that the police crack down on this type of offence. Many people do not appreciate the danger and do not realise how much damage they can cause.
Driving licence and insurance required!
It is compulsory to have both a driving licence and moped insurance. In the Netherlands, it is a legal obligation to take out at least a third-party insurance for a motor vehicle. This insurance covers you for any damage you cause to others with your moped. If you ride your moped without insurance, this also has financial consequences. The fine for driving without insurance is €420.
